Description

Imodium LiquiRelief Capsules is a medicine which is used to treat sudden short-lived (acute) attacks of diarrhoea in adults and children aged 12 years and over.

The capsules contain loperamide hydrochloride which helps reduce diarrhoea by slowing down an overactive bowel to its normal rhythm, which helps the body to absorb water and salts from the bowel.

  • Controls the sudden onset of diarrhoea
  • Each soft capsule contains 2 mg Loperamide hydrochloride
  • Can be used in conjunction with oral rehydration salts such as Dioralyte or ORS

Dosage:

Adults and children aged 12 years and older:

For oral use only. Do not chew.

Adults and children aged 12 years and over: Take 2 capsules initially, followed if required, by 1 capsule after every further loose bowel movement, up to a maximum of 5 capsules per day. If your diarrhoea lasts for more than 24 hours consult your doctor.

Not recommended for children under 12 years.

Read the package leaflet before use.

Safety information

Who should not use it

Do not use if you are allergic to loperamide or any ingredient, in children under 12, or if there is blood in the stools or a high fever. See a doctor instead if you have severe constipation, bloating, a bowel condition such as a flare of ulcerative colitis, or diarrhoea after taking antibiotics.

Warnings & precautions

This treats the symptom, not the cause, so drink plenty of fluids. Do NOT take more than the recommended dose – taking too much loperamide can cause serious heart problems. See a doctor if you are no better after 48 hours or if you get severe stomach pain or bloating.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding

Do not use unless your doctor advises it.

Possible side effects

Constipation, headache, wind, dizziness or nausea. Rarely, allergic reactions; and very rarely, with overdose, serious heart-rhythm problems.

Always read the label

This is a medicine. Always read the label and patient information leaflet before use. If symptoms persist, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
